Students can choose from two majors based on their interests and career goals:
Electrical Engineering This major focuses on smart electrical grids, power electronics, and advanced information technology systems. Students learn to harness renewable electricity production using fast telecommunications and digital infrastructure. The curriculum includes applications in both electricity generation and consumption.
Energy Engineering This major prepares students to design and manage sustainable energy systems. It covers powertrain development, smart energy solutions, and strategies for minimizing environmental impact while ensuring reliable and affordable energy production.
Additionally, students may opt for the Smart Cities and Communities joint Erasmus Mundus programme, which includes modules on energy, transportation, buildings, urban planning, and ICT across three European countries.

For non-EU/EEA students, the tuition fee is €14,000 per academic year. Scholarships are available and may reduce the fee by up to €6,000 per year, based on early payment, academic performance, and study progress. Students should also budget approximately €1,000–1,100 per month for living expenses in Vaasa.
The program offers two admission pathways:
Joint Admission Applications open on January 8, 2025, and close on January 22, 2025. The program begins in Autumn 2025.
Rolling Admission Applications open on June 18, 2025, and close on August 8, 2025. The program also begins in Autumn 2025.
Applicants are encouraged to apply early, especially for rolling admission, as seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
A recognized 3- or 4-year Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, energy engineering, renewable energy, robotics, automation, mechatronics, or related disciplines
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00/5 (ECTS scale)
Strong foundation in engineering mathematics, physics, thermodynamics, and technical documentation
Proof of English proficiency via IELTS (minimum 6.5), TOEFL iBT (minimum 92), or PTE Academic (minimum 62)
Conditional admission is possible for students graduating by July 10, 2025
Degrees in business studies are generally not accepted unless supplemented with substantial technical coursework
