Careers and Employment Opportunities for International Students in the Singapore
International students enrolled in a full-time programme at approved Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) in Singapore can work up to 16 hours per week during the academic year. During vacation periods (such as the summer break from June to August), they are permitted to work full-time.
Note: This privilege applies only to students at government-approved institutions (e.g., NUS, NTU, SMU, polytechnics). Students at many private education institutions (PEIs) are generally not allowed to work part-time unless specifically stated on their Student Pass.
Post-Graduation Opportunities
Upon graduation, international students from IHLs can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), which allows them to stay in Singapore for up to 12 months to seek employment. Unlike the European “zoekjaar,” this pass is specific to Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) regulations.
Once a graduate secures a job offer, the employer must sponsor a work pass, such as:
Employment Pass (EP): For high-skilled professionals, managers, and executives. As of 2025, the minimum qualifying salary is S$5,600 (higher for the financial sector).
S Pass: For mid-level skilled technicians. The minimum qualifying salary is S$3,300.
Key Growth Industries
Singapore’s economy is a global hub for several robust sectors. International graduates find strong opportunities in:
Technology & AI: Software development, cybersecurity, and data science.
Financial Services: Fintech, investment banking, and green finance.
Biomedical Sciences & Healthcare: Pharmaceuticals and medical technology.
Logistics & Supply Chain: Advanced manufacturing and global trade.
Sustainability: Green energy and environmental consultancy.
