Tajikistan has 10 million people, mostly Tajiks (85%), with Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, and Russians as minorities. Tajik (a Persian language) is the official language, while Russian is widely used. Islam is the dominant religion, and Tajiks are known for their warm hospitality. Traditional clothing features colorful embroidered dresses and robes (joma) with skullcaps (tubeteika).

TNU in the XXI century has strengthened its leadership in the system of higher education of the Republic of Tajikistan, forms the image of the university education of the republic, implements a system of continuous professional education, expands educational programs of a specialist and bachelor’s degree, implements educational programs for master’s and doctoral PhD programs, trains specialists for many sectors of the national economy as well as for the countries of Central Asia, the CIS and the SCO. There are 25,736 students studying at TNU, of which 18,782 students (73%) are enrolled in full-time studies (as of 12/30/2020). Of the total number of students, 9,461 (36.8%) are women. There are 1,417 students enrolled in Master’s and Doctoral PhD programs at TNU, which is 5.5% of the total number of university students.

Nasriddinzoda Emomali Saifiddin was born on July 2, 1966 in the Republic of Tajikistan. In 1990 he graduated from the Tajik State Pedagogical University, and in 2003 from the Tajik National University with a degree in Jurisprudence.
Nasriddinzoda Emomali Saifiddin worked in the following positions: teacher at the institution of general secondary education No. 2 (1990–1993); Assistant, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law and Methods of Teaching Law of the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Aini (1993–2006); employee of the Main Directorate of Correctional Institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan (2003–2004); candidate at the Institute of State and Law of the Republic of Tajikistan (2003–2006); Head of the Department of Law and Methods of Teaching Law at the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Aini (2006), senior lecturer at the Department of Theory and History of State and Law of the Faculty of Law at the Tajik National University (TNU) (2006–2007), Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law of TNU on educational work (2007–2009), Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law of TNU on Academic Affairs (2009–2011), Dean of the Faculty of Law of TNU (2011–2016); representative of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan (2016–2021); Chairman of the Majlisi Oli Majlisi Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan on Legislation and Human Rights; Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on social development and public relations (from May, January 5, 2021 to January 16, 2024) and from January 16, 2024 to 2024, by a decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, was appointed rector of TNU.

The development of international scientific and educational relations, an increase in the number and expansion of the geography of foreign students and, in general, the adoption of effective efforts in the internationalization of education and science is one of the main priorities of the university.
